Ask Sherwin-Williams

If Sherwin-Williams told us it would take a month to paint our house, we might have reconsidered. I guess we should have asked. Really though, it took a lot of time – almost a month – and a lot of paint – 13 gallon cans and a few quarts, to be exact – but it looks a lot better than when we first walked through the door. The natural light bounces off the new paint colors much better and really brightens up the rooms.

Even with our struggle to figure out the right colors, the majority of them turned out exactly how we wanted. One of the biggest issues we ran into was the kitchen color; trying to figure out the right shade of coral was near impossible. After testing three samples on the wall, asking our friend’s and family’s opinions along the way, we finally decided on Animated Coral by Sherwin-Williams. I thought the color was a little too bright pink, but Scott thought it was just right. Turns out the only thing right about it was me. It definitely turned out too pink, and Scott agrees now, after we finished covering the entire kitchen with it. While it is a bit pink, it’s growing on us, and we’re going to leave it for now.

The bathrooms were the next biggest problem. All of the corners, light fixtures, and bathroom stuff to paint around made it a lot more difficult and time consuming, especially for a room that size. We also had issues with the painter’s tape not sticking to the trim as well as in the other rooms. Although other’s advice was to just not use it, and paint more carefully, that didn’t quite work out – as displayed now by the downstairs bathroom.

Other than that, the only other real issue we had was brought on by ourselves. The chevron, while it looks amazing, was very time consuming. We spent about two days on a single wall. Measuring out and calculating the correct lengths and heights for the chevron pattern took a couple tries, but we finally got it right. It turned out very well, and we’re both really happy with the final result. It’s my favorite room!

Without further ado, here’s the some pictures! (Don’t mind the mess, we’re still moving in).
