Having learned a lot from our first cabinet, the second one went in much quicker!

The finished cabinets.
In our last post about our living room update, we had just finished one side of the fireplace with cabinets. Those cabinets took about a month to finish, where the second, bigger set, only took about half the time. Taking our experience from the last one made it much easier. We checked for it to fit on almost every cut, and while that took more time up front, when we actually went to put the cabinets in, they actually fit. On top of that, a lot of decisions about how the cabinets would look and whether or not we should get rid of the carpet were already made.

Added the top on.
The whole process went a LOT smoother on the second cabinet.
In the initial drawing that we drew up, we had originally planned on having a top shelf that aligned closer to the top of the mantle. We cut the boards to try and fit them on the top of each of the cabinets, and ended up deciding against it. Without adding lighting and going way beyond what we planned, it was going to make it a lot darker, and we didn’t want that.
We’re definitely happy with the final results.
And now that we had the second cabinet finished, we’ve pretty much got the living room looking how we want it.
Now that we’ve finished the living room and it’s finally getting nicer outside, we have a few plans to do a few things outside and make our outdoor living space a little nicer. We’ll have a post on that once that’s all finished up.
